Music Teacher

Sharon Burch taught general and vocal music for over 20 years. 12 of those years focused on K-3 music instruction to students in the Centerville Community School District in Centerville, Iowa. She traveled between five elementary buildings and taught from a cart in the multipurpose room--and loved it! Sharon developed the Freddie the Frog® book series, ancillary teaching materials, and puppet while teaching full-time in the classroom with the best test group--the students. Now Freddie is a well-loved frog by music students across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and other various parts of the globe. Students easily grasp basic music concepts while falling in love with music because of this little green frog.

With the release of a teacher's book, Beyond the Books (Hal Leonard Publishing), Sharon leads workshops and conference sessions, sharing how to incorporate Freddie into the music or general classroom, and sequence instruction using the Freddie the Frog® books as a captivating introduction to a life-time of music. Sharon continues to write Freddie the Frog® books, musicals, and teaching materials. She serves on the JEN (Jazz Education Network) Elementary Committee, holds a master’s degree as a Professional Educator, is a certified teacher with the International Piano Teaching Foundation, and a National Board Certified Teacher in Early and Middle Childhood Music.
